UPFA member of the Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia municipal council, Savithra De Silva, who was present at an opposition press conference to support the common opposition, changed his mind at the last moment and said he would not leave the government.
When he was asked to speak to media by UNP MP Sujeewa Senasinghe, the UPFA member said he would not support the opposition as it was a “hate-campaign”. He added that he would continue to support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He said this was a conspiracy against the leader who “saved the country”, while adding that he saw thw true colours of the opposition after arriving at the press conference.
Senasinghe, who was sitting alongside him, allowed the MC member to speak to media without interruption.
A few minutes later, he left the press conference and MP Senasinghe asked his supporters to give the MC member a cup of tea and a piece of cake! Speaking to media after the incident, MP Senasinghe said the MC member was to free to have any opinion and the unexpected development showcased the “internal democracy” within the opposition camp.
Senasinghe then read out the speech which was supposed to be made by the Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia MC member at the press conference.
