The JVP Organizer in Deniyaya Electorate AD Ariyadasa has been assaulted by a groups allegedly belonging to the Special Task Force, BBC Sandeshaya reported.

He is also a District Organizer of All Ceylon Estate Workers’ Union Executive Committee.

He has been attacked on early hours on Tuesday when he was returning from work, the report further said. Ariyadasa has said that he was attacked by six people in civilian clothing. They threatened him with a pistol and attacked him with batons, Ariyadasa has said further.

He is currently receiving treatment at Matara Hospital.

Although the JVP has not officially extended its support to the main opposition candidate, it has asked voters to defeat the president at the presidential polls.
