Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena said that the common opposition will take legal acrion against the alleged ‘secret’ document which has been publicized by former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake.
Attanayake, speaking at a press conference in Colombo yesterday, showed a document to media saying it was a “secret agreement” that was signed by the UNP National Leader and common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena.
Addressing the business community today in Colombo, Maithripala Sirisena said no ‘secret’ documents were signed between him and any political party or organization.
“Ranil Wickremesinghe and I have signed no such documents and we will hold a press conference in the evening to clear the air on the matter”, Sirisena said.
The Common Candidate, at the same event, renewed his challenge to President Mahinda Rajapaksa for an open debate on good governance. At the same time, Sirisena challenged the President to bring all the “secret documents” to the open debate.
Meanwhile addressing the forum, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said that it is ‘shameful’ to see the former UNP General Secretary acting in this manner and preparing false documents to sabotage the common oppositions campaign.
UNP National Leader Ranil Wickremesighe also said under the new government, good governance will be the fourth branch alongside the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary.
