President Rajapaksa has promised that he will solve the problems of the people who were in IDP camps for 24 years in Jaffna.
“As I promised the war has ended. I cannot give false promises. You have to trust me and I have to trust you. Once I become president again, your issue will be the first I will address. I won’t say anything else now” the president added.
He also said that he tried to resolve their problem before but some of their leaders did not allow him to do so. Rajapaksa added that now they are trying to turn it into an international issue.
"This could have been solved locally if they had helped me", Rajapaksa said, adding that there was no need to make it an international issue. Rajapaksa said that he was a leader who kept his word and asked the people to keep their trust in him.
It was revealed that the welfare camps were flooded during rains. The president asked the Governor of Northern Province to look into the matter.
