Despite interruptions and sudden power-cuts, Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena launched his much awaited election manifesto at the Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre this morning.
Due to non-availability of electricity, the sound system became dysfunctional from time to time, but Common Candidate proceeded with the launch saying he would not be deterred by such interruptions and intimidations.
“They may try to obstruct our journey by flouting election laws buy we will not be deterred,” Maithripala said which launching his election manifesto two and a half weeks before the presidential election.
The Common Candidate also pledged that he would win the upcoming presidential polls and form a new government after January 09. The election manifesto was launched with the theme "A New Country In 100 Days" (Dina 100kin Aluth Ratak).
His election manifesto was mainly based on the 100 day programme, proposed by the Common Opposition at the outset of its presidential election campaign.
However, when Maithripala Sirisena continued with his speech without the sound system, the electricity was restored, much to the surprise of seniors of the common opposition who were present at the event.
Meanwhile, organizers of the event told Asian Mirror that water supply too was restricted to the Viharamahavi Park during the event.
"The area around the launch was surprisingly muddy and it was clear that there was a conspiracy to sabotage the event through various interruptions," he said.
