In a fresh development, Irrigation and Water Resources Minister and Leader of the House Nimal Siripla de Silva said leaders of the Common Opposition had held discussions with 13 members of the Tamil Diaspora within the month of November.
The Minister charged that former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena, UNP National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera, Democratic Party Leader Sarath Fonseka and UPFA stalwart Rajitha Senaratne went on regular tours to Singapore in November.
The main objective of those meetings, according to him, was to visit the Diaspora activists who are based in Singapore.
“We will reveal the nature of these discussions and more details in the future”, the Minister said speaking to reporters in Colombo yesterday.
The Leader of the House dubbed the common Opposition as a “front organization” of Tamil Diaspora that is aimed at disrupting political stability in the country.
“The common opposition is purely an anti-Mahinda agenda, they are driven by hatred, jealousy and desperation. They are prepared to sacrifice the stability of the country for their victory and that is why they have held discussions with Eelamists”, he added.
Minister de Silva’s “revelation” came in the wake of the statement President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that Presidential Candidate Maithripala Sirisena has signed a secret deal with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).
