The Parliament of Sri Lanka will meet today for its last session before the upcoming presidential election. The sitting is scheduled to start at 1.30 this afternoon.

Several MPs of the opposition, who spoke to Asian Mirror yesterday evening said at least two ruling party MPs will cross over to the opposition during the last Parliamentary session. Some UNP Parliamentarians confidently said four ruling party MPs had given their consent to join the opposition today.

If the government loses one more Parliamentarian in the House, it will also lose the two thirds majority in the country's legislature.

Without the two thirds majority, the government cannot introduce constiutiomal amendments at its will and they will require the support of the opposition.

Presently, the ruling party has 150 seats in the Parliament - the minimum number of MPs that is required to secure a two thirds majotity.

However,the government asserted yesterday that the opposition's plans will not materialize today as no government MP will cross over to the opposition today.
