The United National Party today said that tomorrow will be the last day of the government’s two thirds majority in parliament.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, a senior Parliamentarian of the UNP said four ruling party MPs are expected to cross over to the opposition tomorrow.

The Parliament will conduct its last session for the year 2014 tomorrow. Since the announcement of the Presidential Election 13 ruling party Parliamentarians have crossed over to the opposition. In return the government has managed to get two UNP Parliamentarians, including Tissa Attanayake.

Presently, the government has 150 MPs in the house, allowing them to secure a two thirds majority marginally. The opposition MP said the possible crossovers that will take place tomorrow will deprive the government of its two thirds majority.  

Meanwhile, speaking at a political rally in Kalutara, Bulathsinghala yesterday (10), common candidate Maithripala Sirisena reiterated that only a half of the defectors have crossed over to the common opposition and more crossovers are expected within the next ten days.

Sirisena asserted that a 90% of the members of the ruling party are not taking part in President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s election campaign. “They regularly ask what they can do to ensure my victory”, he added.

“I guarantee, a half of the ruling party will join us before the Presidential Election”, he said.

 The common candidate asserted that they are fighting the Presidential battle on two fronts, Internally and externally..
