Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has slammed at those in the party who overlook the presidential campaign over their lack of preparations for the rally which is scheduled to be held in Kandy next week.
The Opposition Leader told the front-liners of the party that at least the essential public work, such as posters and distribution of handouts, has not been carried out.
It has been brought to the notice of the opposition leader that the lack of coordination in the campaign is the main reason behind the delay in carrying out essential propaganda work.
Wickremasinghe has asserted that those who are assigned with responsibilities should "pull their socks up" if they do not wish to end up on the losing side! However, the organizers at the lower rung complain that they are somewhat restricted due to the absence of a central body that carries out ground level activities pertaining to the presidential campaign.
However, the rally which was conducted by the opposition at Uyanwatte stadium in Matara had been successful with a large number of supporters taking part in the event despite obstructions from the Police. Several leading figures in the common opposition, including UNP Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya and Arjuna Ranatunga attended the rally. The event was organized by UNP Matara District Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera.
