Maithripala’s Party Secretary Refutes Premajayantha’s Allegation

General Secretary of the New Democratic Front lawyer Shamila Perera said that UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha’s claims on common candidate Maithripala Sirisena are baseless and false.

Yesterday addressing a press conference in Colombo, Susil Premajayantha said that Maithripala Sirisena does not represent a political party and therefore he is not “protected” by any sort of party constitution.

However, speaking to Asian Mirror, Shamila Perera said that if any citizen of Sri Lanka can go before court and Chief Justice, the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena shares the same right to defend himself in front of the law.

She added that the 'New Democratic Front' under which Sirisena will contest in the upcoming Presidential Election, is a legal registered party with a clear constitution.

“If drug peddlers, murderers, rapists can defend themselves in front of the law, why can’t Maithrpala defend himself? Premajayantha’s claims are baseless and deceitful”, Perera said.

The New Democratic Front General Secretary asserted if some party claims that Sirisena cannot defend himself, it stands as evidence to the corrupt governance of the country and influence of politics within the legal system.

“Anyone who is subjected to unfair treatment or wrong doing has a right to seek assistance of the law, it is the equal right of all citizen of Sri Lanka”, Perera added.
