Chief Minister of Uva Provincial Council Shasheendra Rajapaksa has said if Harin Fernando wants to be the Chief Minister of Uva, he should discuss the matter with President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Shasheendra Rajapksa has made this remark as a reply to Opposition Leader of Uva Province Harin Fernando’s claims of a possible overturn of Uva Provincial Council.

Speaking to media in Moneragala, the Chief Minister said that Harin Fernando is grasping at straws while trying to cause a doubt within the people’s minds.

However, speaking at a press conference at Sirikotha UNP Headquarters yesterday (2), Fernando said that there would be a possible shift in power in the Uva Provincial Council by the end of this week.

Fernando said that the Uva Provicial Council meeting has to be cancelled due to bad weather. He added that the ruling party is making false claims to postpone an inevitable result.

“Closing of a Provincial Council due to bad weather shows the weakness of the government, Provincial Councils are supposed to serve the people, not abandon them.” Fernando said.
