The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), which is already an unofficial member of the common opposition, will officially announce on November 27 whether they would support the common candidate at the upcoming Presidential Election.
JHU General Secretary Patali Champika Ranawaka said that the JHU will announce their decision at a press conference in Colombo.
“We will always work towards ensuring democracy and JHU has already taken steps to educate the people about our policies”, Ranawaka said.
Earlier this month Patali Champika Ranawaka and Udaya Gammanpila stepped down from their ministerial positions of the government and declared their support to the common candidate.
Even though the two former Ministers stepped down from their ministerial positions, the JHU did not officially break away from the government party.
Meanwhile, Convener for the JHU Athuraliye Rathana thera also expressed his support to the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena on a numerous occasions.
Speaking at the ‘Satana’ political programme in Sirasa TV, Rathana thera highly praised the former General Secretary of UPFA Maithripala Sirisena for sacrificing his positions in the ruling party and becoming the commona candidate to compete against President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Athuraliye Rathana thera also invited the other opposition political parties to join the cause of Maithripala Sirisena and further strengthen the common opposition.
