JHU General Secretary Patali Champika Ranawaka addressing a press conference a short while ago stated that he and Udaya Gammanpila would resign from all positions in the government.
Ranawaka will step down from his position as the Minister of Technology and Research while Gammanpila will step down from him Ministerial position at the Western Provincial Council.
Ranawaka made this revelation a short while ago at a full-scale press conference that was held in Colombo with the participation of all key members of the Jathika Hea Urumaya including Athurliye Rathana thera and Omalpe Sobhitha thera.
Addressing the press conference Minister Ranawaka said politics in Sri Lanka has deteriorated over the past four years under the UPFA government.
"The JHU is not bound to the UPFA anymore and it is a humantarian operation that starts from today," Ranawaka added.
“We will decide on our future course of action based on our policies,” Ranawaka said addressing the press conference.
Ranawaka asserted that the JHU was ready to work with any party that agrees with their set of proposals. He invited the people what he termed as the ‘Sinhabahu Breed’ to join hands with him.
Udaya Gammanpila who did not take part in the crucial Central Committee meeting last night said he was to undergo a bladder removal surgery in a while but came to announce the crucial decision.
Gammanpila also added that President Mahinda Rajapaksa ‘must be a lunatic’ to include abolition of Executive Presidency in the election manifesto for the third time.
“There is no point in remaining with the government if he cannot point out mistakes”, Gammanpila said.
“We are giving the best birthday present to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by showing him the right path” JHU Leader Omalpe Sobhitha thera said addressing the press conference.
Athuraliye Rathana thera addressing the press conference made a strong remark stating that anyone who is ready to face death can become the most powerful person in the world.
“Those who are accusing us of implementing NGO agendas are inadvertently blaming the President. “ Rathana thera said.
He also urged all civil groups and organizations to unite in order to curtail executive powers of the President.
Rathana thera reiterated that they would not support President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the upcoming Presidential Election.
Meanwhile, Athuraliye Rathana thera who was the Chairman of The Development Committee in Diwulapitiya, resigned from his position yesterday and handed over the official vehicle given to him by the Economic development Ministry.
