The Ministry of Labor has appointed a committee to investigate the appointment process of labor welfare officers at Sri Lanka’s diplomatic missions abroad, following multiple complaints of irregularities. The ministry has said that concerns have been raised over the lack of transparency in the selection process of these officers, who are responsible for addressing the issues faced by Sri Lankan workers, particularly in regions such as the Middle East, Japan, and South Korea.
Reports says that the appointments in question were not conducted in a transparent manner, prompting the need for a thorough review. A senior official from the Ministry of Labor confirmed that the committee is currently looking into the matter, and further actions will be considered once the investigation is completed.
