Ven. Battaramulle Seelarathna Thera praised President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for the government’s decision to recall over a dozen diplomats from foreign missions, following the view that they were political appointments.
Seelarathna Thera, who went to the CID to lodge a complaint over alleged death threats received from a fellow monk, said the decision to recall those diplomats was a commendable one.
“I want to thank the President for recalling these unqualified individuals. No other President has done that, and the current President was brave enough to take this step. Throughout the years, important posts in foreign missions were given to the henchmen of political parties and politicians. After receiving their appointments, they did everything in the world except their job. This should be changed, and I commend the President and the current government for taking this first step,” he emphasized.
