The doctors of the Karapitiya National Hospital have started an indefinite strike from 8.00 am today in protest against the misconduct of a specialist in the oncology department of the Karapitiya National Hospital. This action follows an earlier token strike on the same issue, with health workers expressing their displeasure over the lack of resolution from the hospital authorities.
Dr. Asanka Konara, joint secretary of the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA), said that the aim of the strike is to put pressure on the hospital officials to solve the problems related to the behavior of the specialist. He said that the doctors would have to intensify their protest as no significant action was taken despite earlier strikes.
In response, Dr. S.P.U.M. Director of Karapitiya Hospital Ranga confirmed that the Ministry of Health has decided to transfer the specialist to Maharagama Cancer Hospital. The official transfer notice will be released today.
