Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa decided to enter Parliament from the National List in the upcoming General Election at the request of the party, SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said.
Addressing the media after attending a meeting at the Election Commission (EC) held with the participation of general secretaries of the parties contesting in the General Election, Kariyawasam said that Namal Rajapaksa initially wanted to contest in the election from the Hambantota District, as his family members had done in previous elections.
“However, the party members requested him not to limit his capacity to one district, as he is needed for island-wide election campaigns. So, he decided to follow the party’s request. That’s why he is coming to Parliament from the National List,” Kariyawasam added.
