Nilanthi Kottahachchi, a candidate for the National People’s Power (NPP), has sought to clarify her recent allegations regarding stolen assets reportedly hidden in Uganda by the previous administration. Nilanthi Kottahachchi emphasized that her comments were intended to highlight the broader issue of recovering illicit wealth both domestically and internationally.

Addressing the media, she acknowledged that her statements had drawn criticism and personal attacks, resulting in her being dubbed "Uganda Kumari." In her speeches leading up to the Presidential Election, she has highlighted the importance of restoring law and order and pledged to create an institution dedicated to asset recovery.

She noted the ongoing debate surrounding the De La Rue Company’s involvement in printing currency notes for Uganda, clarifying that this is part of a legitimate transaction. However, she reiterated concerns over the previous government's investments abroad and the potential laundering of public funds.

Nilanthi Kottahachchi said that any government has a duty to combat the misuse of public resources. Responding to criticism from former MP Namal Rajapaksa, she welcomed the challenge and assured that the NPP is prepared to respond appropriately.
