The Central Bank of Sri Lanka announced that headline inflation, as measured by the year-on-year change in the Colombo Consumer Price Index, has entered negative territory for the first time since September 2015.
The deflation rate recorded for September 2024 is 0.5%.
This shift is largely attributed to a decline in food prices, with the food category experiencing a year-on-year deflation of 0.3%, reversing the 0.8% inflation reported in August.
The non-food category also reflected a downturn, with a deflation rate of 0.5%, compared to 0.4% inflation the previous month.
