Former MP Uddika Premaratne’s Shooting Incident Found to be Orchestrated

Police investigations have uncovered that the September 2023 shooting incident involving former MP Uddika Premaratne was orchestrated by the former Parliamentarian himself. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) launched a probe after reports that an unidentified group had fired at Premaratne’s parked vehicle near his residence.

Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa revealed that Premaratne had colluded with an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to stage the incident. The ASP reportedly left Sri Lanka without authorization and is now residing overseas with his family. Notably, he dispatched his official weapon to his police station through a third party before departing for Malaysia on June 12.

Following the incident, Uddika Premaratne resigned from Parliament in February 2024.
