Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Gunathilaka Rajapaksha has accused fellow party member MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage of physically assaulting him at the Presidential Secretariat, resulting in injuries that required surgery. Addressing the media, Rajapaksha refuted Aluthgamage's claim that he had fallen down the stairs, stating that he was nowhere near the staircase at the time.
Rajapaksha asserted that he had fallen due to continuous physical assaults by Aluthgamage. Despite having a Judicial Medical Officer’s report and CCTV footage that could substantiate his claims, Rajapaksha expressed frustration over the Police's inaction and called for Aluthgamage to be taken into custody and produced in court.
The incident, which occurred during a ruling party meeting on June 3, left Rajapaksha with a serious leg injury necessitating over four hours of surgery. Following the altercation, Rajapaksha’s son lodged a complaint with the Colombo-Fort Police, alleging that Aluthgamage assaulted his father. Rajapaksha announced plans to address Parliament about the incident soon.
