The United Postal Trade Unions Front (UPTUF) initiated a nationwide postal strike at midnight on June 12, which will continue until midnight today, June 13. The strike, organized by UPTUF convener Chinthaka Bandara, aims to pressure the government to address the critical shortage of employees within the postal service.
In response, Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara has canceled all postal workers’ leave, emphasizing the Posts Department’s commitment to maintaining service continuity. Sathkumara expressed his disapproval of the strike, noting that measures are already being taken to address the issues raised by the union.
