Twenty newly recruited officers joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS) on Tuesday, June 11, following a welcoming ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Foreign Secretary Aruni Wijewardane.
During her address, Wijewardane highlighted the critical role of the SLFS and the special responsibilities borne by its officers as public servants. She highlighted the essential skills required in modern diplomacy, particularly the focus on economic diplomacy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the new officers were selected through an open competitive examination and interview process, with appointments made by the Public Service Commission. Before assuming their roles at the Ministry, the officers will undergo an induction training program at the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute (BIDTI).
