President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced the immediate commencement of the Ashraf Memorial Museum in Kalmunai, honoring the late M.H.M. Ashraf, founder of the Muslim Congress and former Minister.
The decision, made on Ashraf’s 24th death anniversary, follows requests from H.M.M. Haris, Digamadulla District MP, and the Muslim community. The President has allocated Rs. 25 million for the project, emphasizing Ashraf's significant contributions as a lawyer, legislator, and politician who served the Muslim community with dedication.
Ashraf was respected across ethnic lines, including the Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim communities. The museum will be built in his hometown, reflecting his lasting legacy in the Eastern Province.
