Partially Constructed Section of the Central Expressway Collapses

A section of the Mirigama-Kadawatha Expressway, which was under partial construction, has collapsed, according to the Road Development Authority.
The collapse involved a 35-meter-long concrete beam, with two other beams now deemed at risk.
While the laying of concrete beams was completed in 2021, the cause of the collapse remains unknown.

As a precaution, the authority plans to test the quality of all beams along the 17-kilometer stretch of the road. The suspension of expressway construction due to the IMF agreement has raised concerns, with officials to be briefed on the situation.
