As International Labour Day approaches on May 1st, various political parties in Sri Lanka have initiated preparations for their respective May Day rallies. The United National Party, led by General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara, is set to hold its rally at Maligawatta, with President Ranil Wickremesinghe expected to attend.
Meanwhile, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, represented by MP Tissa Attanayake, plans to host rallies at Chatham Street, Pettah, and Talawakelle. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, under the guidance of MP Sanjeewa Edirimanne, will gather at Campbell Park, Borella. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party's rally is slated for the Municipal Council Grounds in Gampaha, with full party participation anticipated.
In addition, the National People's Power movement aims to conduct rallies nationwide under the theme "Rata Hadana Visadumata Jana Balaya Eka Pelata" (Country Against Economic Crisis, People's Power Together).
Key marches and rallies are scheduled in various locations: Colombo's march will commence at 2 pm at the BRC Ground, followed by a rally at 3 pm at CWW Kannangara Mawatha. Jaffna's event is set for 10 am at the Nanda Selva Theater, while Matara's march will start at 2 pm from Rahula Junction, culminating in a rally at Matara Beach Park at 3:30 pm. Anuradhapura's rally will take place at the Anuradhapura Public Stadium at 3:30 pm.
