Foreign Employment Ministry Issues Special Notice to Combat Fraudulent Activities

In response to rising concerns over fraudulent practices in foreign employment, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has received special directives from Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara. The minister instructed SLBFE officials to rigorously enforce laws against individuals falsely soliciting money under the guise of offering foreign job opportunities.

Minister Nanayakkara emphasized the importance of preventing any activities related to fraudulent money collection for purported foreign employment opportunities. He urged SLBFE officials to facilitate thorough investigations into illegal money collection schemes.

Recent complaints have highlighted incidents of fraud, including one involving a Police Sergeant and a Buddhist monk near Anuradhapura, where money was unlawfully collected from individuals in exchange for false promises of overseas employment.

Minister Nanayakkara urged victims of such scams to file complaints promptly with the SLBFE’s complaint section to initiate legal action against the perpetrators. He assured the public that only licensed foreign employment agencies are authorized to handle payments for overseas employment.

In light of ongoing investigations and the seriousness of these fraudulent activities, Minister Nanayakkara urged individuals who have fallen victim to such scams to come forward and file complaints immediately at the SLBFE. He emphasized the importance of formal complaints in taking legal action against offenders and urged the public to cooperate in combatting these illegal practices.
