The Department of Meteorology forecasts afternoon showers in select regions of Sri Lanka today. Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, and Uva provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m. Some areas may experience fairly heavy showers, reaching approximately 50mm, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces.
Misty conditions are likely in the morning across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts. Additionally, showers or thundershowers are predicted in a few locations in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle in the evening or night.
Variable winds with speeds ranging from 20-30 kmph are anticipated, while the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo, Galle, and Matara may experience fairly rough conditions at times. Conversely, other sea areas around the island are expected to be slight.
During thundershowers, temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible, advises the Department of Meteorology.
