Sri Lankan actress Damitha Abeyratne and her husband faced another setback today as they were further remanded by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court until April 24, 2024, over allegations of financial fraud.
The couple, who surrendered to the Fort Magistrate’s Court earlier this month, had been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Authorities accuse them of defrauding nearly Rs. 3 million by promising foreign job opportunities. Despite their plea, the Court of Appeal rejected their request for an interim order against arrest under the Immigrants and Emigrants Act. The ongoing case has also resulted in a travel ban imposed on the couple.
