An Extraordinary Gazette has been issued, designating services linked to the provision of electricity, as well as the supply and distribution of petroleum products and fuel, as essential services.


The Gazette, issued on Sunday (03), was enacted by order of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, through Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake. This proclamation underscores the critical nature of these services, recognizing their indispensable role in the functioning of communities.


The declaration encompasses services provided by Public Corporations, Government Departments, Local Authorities, and Co-operative Societies, emphasizing their pivotal contribution to community welfare.

It highlights the imperative of safeguarding these services from potential impediments or interruptions, ensuring their seamless provision to the populace.
