Government to Launch E-Passport Service to Cut Down Queues at Immigration and Emigration Department

The government has announced the introduction of an E-Passport service, aiming to address the long waiting times at the Immigration and Emigration Department in Battaramulla.

Minister Tiran Alles highlighted the move during a press conference, noting the initiative is partly in response to the high demand for passports from individuals taking the Korean Language Proficiency Test.

Discussions with the Korean government are ongoing to implement a system where passports will be issued only to those who pass the exam, streamlining the process. Additionally, Minister Alles announced the completion of preparations for issuing new National Identity Cards (NIC), signaling advancements in various public service sectors.
