Opposition lawmaker Gayantha Karunathilaka, representing the Galle District for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), was observed participating in a national ceremony for the distribution of ten thousand land deeds under the inaugural phase of the "Urumaua" program. The event, presided over by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, took place today afternoon (5) at the Rangiri Dambulu Stadium.
Karunathilaka, who previously served as the Minister of Lands during the Yahapalanaya government led by Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister, joined the President in the formal presentation of land deeds to beneficiaries. His presence at the ceremony, despite being an opposition figure, reflects a bipartisan approach towards addressing issues of land ownership and distribution.
Accompanying President Wickremesinghe were several ministers, including Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Lands and Sports Minister Harin Fernando. The event underscored the government's commitment to the Urumaya program, aimed at providing free land deeds to 2 millionfarming families across the country.
