TNA MP Shanakiyan Rasamanikam voiced concerns over the prolonged 24-hour power cuts affecting 500,000 people, raising questions about the focus of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
Drawing a stark comparison with the time of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's administration when power cuts were limited to 2, 3, or 4 hours, MP Rasamanikam highlighted the unprecedented move by the CEB under the current circumstances.
"The CEB at present, including the Ministry of Power & Energy, has provided a 24-hour power cut to 500,000 people," stated MP Rasamanikam during the committee stage debate. This move has sparked public concern and calls for clarification on the reasons behind such an extensive power cut.
Furthermore, the MP brought attention to the profits of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and the alleged denial of these profits. Despite the CPC reportedly making considerable gains, there are claims of denial by relevant authorities.
MP Rasamanikam posed a crucial question to the Parliament, asking whether the CEB is solely focused on making profits or if it is an institution primarily designed to provide a service to the public.
