Sports Minister Harin Fernando has advised the relocation of the State Sports Minister's office from the World Trade Center to the Sports Ministry building in Colombo 7. The decision comes as part of an effort to streamline operations and cut costs associated with the rental of office space.
Sports Minister Harin Fernando communicated the directive to State Sports Minister Rohana Dissanayake, urging him to utilize the office room assigned to him within the Ministry of Sports. Additionally, Minister Fernando, who also oversees the Ministry of Tourism, informed the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports that he would conduct relevant duties from the same ministry.
The rationale behind this decision, according to Minister Fernando, is the substantial monthly cost incurred by the office of the State Minister of Sports at the World Trade Center, amounting to approximately 42 lakh rupees. By relocating to the Sports Ministry building, the government aims to achieve significant savings while maintaining operational efficiency.
Furthermore, Minister Fernando highlighted that the funds saved from the relocation, estimated at nearly five crore rupees per year, will be redirected to the Sports Development Fund.
