In a move that has stirred controversy and raised questions about political affiliations, Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Deshabandu Thennakoon has been appointed as the Acting Inspector General of Police. 

The appointment, valid for three months, has sparked concerns given Thennakoon's historical ties and previous associations.

Thennakoon's political affiliations have long been a subject of scrutiny, and this appointment comes under renewed scrutiny due to the questions surrounding his alignment. The controversy is further fueled by allegations pointing fingers at him in connection with the May 9th attack on Galle Face protestors last year.
