Netherlands Returns Six Colonial-Era Treasures Looted During Dutch Era, Strengthening Cultural Ties with Sri Lanka

In a significant cultural gesture, the Netherlands has handed over six colonial-era treasures, including the famed "Lewke's cannon," to Sri Lanka. State Minister Vidura Wickramanayake announced this momentous event, underscoring the initiative as a testament to the longstanding cultural ties between the two nations.

The cannon, adorned with gold, silver, and bronze, known as "Lewke's cannon," is among the treasures that were looted during the colonial period by the Dutch. The return of these artifacts represents a meaningful step towards acknowledging historical transgressions and fostering cultural collaboration.
