The Sri Lankan Cabinet has given its approval to award the contract for a groundbreaking project to China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec). Minister Kanchana Wijesekera announced that the agreement is set to establish a new petroleum refinery and an associated product processing center in Hambantota.
The decision was made at the Cabinet meeting held at the Presidnetial Secretariat.
Minister Kanchana Wijesekera, speaking on behalf of the government, confirmed the Cabinet's approval of the contract with Sinopec. The Chinese company, renowned globally for its expertise in the petroleum and chemical industry, is set to play a pivotal role in the establishment and operation of the new facility in Hambantota.
The project is anticipated to bolster Sri Lanka's energy independence and create employment opportunities in the region. The development aligns with the government's broader vision for economic growth and sustainable energy solutions.
