In response to the alarming incident at the Nawalapitiya-Rambukpitiya school, where two students were hospitalized after being forced to eat polythene by the principal, the Education Ministry has taken swift action. The ministry has announced the immediate transfer of the principal involved in the disturbing incident.
The incident unfolded when students brought their lunches to school wrapped in a combination of polythene and paper. Reports indicate that the principal witnessed the students repacking the used polythene and paper back into their bags after having their meals. Expressing outrage at their actions, the principal allegedly resorted to a drastic and harmful measure, compelling the students to eat the polythene wrappers.
The consequences of this forced ingestion were immediate, with at least two students falling sick shortly after the incident. Concerned parents and school authorities rushed the affected students to the hospital for prompt medical attention.
The Education Ministry, upon learning of the incident, took action by transferring the principal involved in the case. An inquiry into the incident is also underway.
