Pramodya Wickramasinghe, the Chairman of the National Cricket Selection Committee, visited the Police Unit relating to Prevention of Offenses Relating to Sports at the Sugathadasa Sports Complex premises in Colombo this morning (21) to provide a statement.
The visit comes in response to a summons received by Wickramasinghe, who had earlier made controversial remarks about a conspiracy behind the Sri Lankan cricket team's massive collapse in the ICC World Cup.
The officer overseeing the proceedings stated that Wickramasinghe had been informed to appear at the unit to make a statement regarding his earlier revelation about the ICC World Cup cricket tournament. The call to appear before the unit was initiated following a complaint filed by the Ministry of Sports concerning Wickramasinghe's comments as the Chairman of the National Cricket Selection Committee.
Wickramasinghe, known for his candid commentary, had previously suggested that there might be a conspiracy behind the disappointing performance of the Sri Lankan cricket team in the World Cup tournament. His remarks sparked controversy and led to the Ministry of Sports lodging a complaint, prompting the summons to the Police Unit for Prevention of Offenses Relating to Sports.
