Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has accused Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) of coercing the International Cricket Council (ICC) into suspending Sri Lanka from international cricket. The Minister made these damning allegations during a media briefing held in Colombo, where he claimed to quote a letter purportedly sent by SLC to the ICC on November 7, 2023.
According to Ranasinghe, the letter, sent by SLC, played a pivotal role in the suspension of Sri Lanka from international cricket. He expressed his dismay, labeling it an act of betrayal orchestrated by what he referred to as the "corrupt administration" within SLC. The Sports Minister contended that the SLC's alleged actions had misled the ICC, resulting in severe consequences for Sri Lanka's cricketing future.
This revelation adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing cricket crisis in Sri Lanka, with political and administrative interference in the sport leading to a suspension by the ICC. Ranasinghe's accusations against SLC raise questions about the integrity of the cricketing body's dealings with the international cricket governing body and the potential impact on Sri Lanka's standing in the cricketing world.
