A controversy has emerged regarding the actions of COPE Chairman MP Ranjith Bandara during the summons of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials before the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) yesterday. The Opposition Leader, Sajith Premadasa, raised concerns in Parliament, questioning whether Bandara's hand gestures were directed at an SLC official who was testifying before COPE. Premadasa suggested that such gestures could jeopardize the credibility of the parliamentary committee.
During the COPE session, Ranjith Bandara, seated at the head table, faced accusations from Premadasa regarding his gestures. Responding to these claims, Bandara clarified that he did not make any gestures towards SLC officials. Instead, he explained that he signaled to a COPE member, indicating a request for orderly proceedings.
Bandara defended his actions, stating that his intention was to ensure that only one member spoke at a time during the hearing. He emphasized that the gesture was not directed at any SLC official but was a communication to maintain decorum within the committee.
