Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials are set to undergo scrutiny today before the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE).
COPE chairman MP Ranjith Bandara has announced that the meeting, scheduled for November 14, will commence at 2:00 p.m., with a focus on evaluating two special reports and recommendations from previous COPE members.
The COPE meetings have become a vital platform for assessing the governance and financial aspects of various state entities, and today's session is anticipated to delve into the intricacies of SLC's operations. The cricket body has been summoned to appear before COPE previously, with the Auditor General's report on SLC taking center stage in the discussions.
Of particular concern is the ongoing ban from the International Cricket Council (ICC) looming over Sri Lanka Cricket. The ICC has cited "political interference" in the governance of cricket as the reason for thl ban, a matter that has drawn attention and criticism both locally and internationally.
Former COPE chairpersons, including Sunil Handunnetti and Prof. Charitha Herath, have previously chaired meetings on SLC affairs. The current session is expected to not only address the Auditor General's report but also incorporate recommendations from past COPE chairpersons, offering a comprehensive overview of the challenges and potential areas for improvement within the cricketing body.
