Medical Rights Advocates Accuse Police of Delay in Arresting IVIG Racket Masterminds

November 12, 2023

The Medical and Civil Rights Professional Association (MCPA) has raised concerns about what they perceive as a deliberate delay by the police in apprehending the masterminds behind the substandard human intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) vials incident. At a press briefing held in Galle, Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, the President of MCPA, emphasized the urgency of presenting the suspects involved in the alleged racket before the court and demanded action before November 15.

Dr. Sanjeewa further alleged that the Ministry of Health is working to shield corrupt officials who have connections with the authorities. The association contends that the police's apparent procrastination in arresting the individuals responsible for the IVIG vials' substandard quality raises questions about the integrity of the investigation and the commitment to bringing those accountable to justice.

The IVIG scandal, which involves compromised medical supplies, has prompted increased scrutiny from medical and civil rights groups, urging swift and transparent action to address the alleged corruption within the health sector.
