Arjuna Ranatunga Leaves SLC Premises Following Court of Appeal Suspension of Interim Committee Appointment

November 07, 2023

Arjuna Ranatunga, former Sri Lankan cricket captain and Chairman of the interim committee for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), has left the SLC premises in less than 24 hours after he assumed office last afternoon.

Ranatunga left the SLC premises after the  Court of Appeal issued an order suspending the Sports Minister's gazette that appointed him as the Chairman. This suspension is set to be valid for 14 days.

The Court of Appeal's order has brought a temporary halt to the functioning of the interim committee formed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, which includes Arjuna Ranatunga as Chairman. This development comes amid a power struggle between the Sports Minister and the President regarding the appointment of the interim committee and its composition.
