A new chapter in Sri Lanka Cricket's ongoing saga unfolded as the Appeal Court issued a 14-day stay order suspending the functions of the recently appointed Interim Committee for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
The committee, headed by World Cup-winning former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga, was formed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe on November 6.
The appeal court's decision also includes a suspension of the relevant Gazette issued by the Sports Minister, which appointed the committee members, causing considerable controversy and tensions within the cricket administration.
The Interim Committee, as originally constituted, included Arjuna Ranatunga as the Chairman, S. I. Imam, Retired Supreme Court Judge, Rohini Marasinghe, Retired Supreme Court Judge, Irangani Perera, Retired High Court Judge, Upali Dharmadasa, Rakitha Rajapakshe, and Hisham Jamaldeen.
The stay order has brought a halt to the activities of the Interim Committee, pending further legal proceedings and clarifications about its formation. The ongoing controversy around the committee's appointment has raised significant questions about cricket administration in Sri Lanka, and the outcome of these legal proceedings will determine the way forward for Sri Lanka Cricket.
