Ministerial Committee Formed to Review Sri Lanka Cricket's Future Activities and Interim Committee Appointment

November 06, 2023

The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has decided to establish a 4-member ministerial committee to oversee the future activities of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and review the Gazette notification regarding the appointment of the SLC Interim Committee members.

This decision comes following recent controversy surrounding the appointment of the Interim Committee and the disagreement between the Sports Minister and President.

The 4-member ministerial committee will be chaired by Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, and it includes Ministers Kanchana Wijesekara, Manusha Nanayakkara, and Tiran Alles as other members. Their mandate is to examine the activities and governance of Sri Lanka Cricket, ensuring that it aligns with the best interests of the sport and the nation.

The controversy regarding the appointment of the SLC Interim Committee and the President's claim of being uninformed has raised questions about the direction of cricket administration in Sri Lanka. The newly formed ministerial committee is expected to address these concerns and provide a path forward.
