No Bus Fare Hike: Private Bus Owners Unions Respond to Fuel Price Increases

November 01, 2023

Private bus owners' unions in Sri Lanka have taken a stand against raising bus fares in response to the recent increase in diesel prices.

This declaration comes in the wake of the revision of fuel prices by CEYPETCO, a state-owned petroleum company.

On the recent revision, CEYPETCO announced the following adjustments:

  • Octane 92 Petrol: Reduced by Rs.9 to Rs.356
  • Octane 95 Petrol: Increased by Rs.3 to Rs.423
  • Auto Diesel: Increased by Rs.5 to Rs.356
  • Super Diesel: Increased by Rs.10 to Rs.431
  • Kerosene: Increased by Rs.7 to Rs.249

Despite the upward adjustment in diesel prices, private bus owners' unions maintain that there is no necessity to raise bus fares for commuters. This stance is seen as a move to alleviate the potential financial burden on passengers who rely on public transportation services.
