Government Launches Divestiture Bidding Process for Debt-Ridden SriLankan Airlines

November 01, 2023

In order to address the financial challenges faced by the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines, the Sri Lankan government has officially called for bids for the divestiture of the beleaguered airline, as announced by Minister of Ports, Shipping & Aviation, Nimal Siripala De Silva.

The announcement comes as part of the government's ongoing efforts to alleviate the financial burden posed by the airline and to explore potential solutions for its future. To facilitate this divestiture process, Invitations to Tenders (ITTs) have been released through both local and foreign media outlets and various official websites.

The divestiture strategy is expected to follow a two-stage competitive bidding process, consisting of the Request for Qualification (RFQ) stage, followed by the Request for Proposals for the Proposed Transaction (RFP) stage. This meticulous process is aimed at ensuring transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the sale of SriLankan Airlines.
