Sri Lanka Empowers Solar Energy Consumers: One-Time Migration and Financing Schemes Unveiled by CEB & LECO

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera announced today that the country's power utility companies, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the Lanka Electricity Company (LECO), will soon offer rooftop solar customers the flexibility to choose between various solar energy schemes.

Starting next week, rooftop solar customers will have the opportunity for a one-time migration between Net Plus, Net Metering, and Net Accounting Schemes, based on their preferences and energy needs. This exciting move aims to empower consumers and provide them with the freedom to select the solar energy scheme that best suits their requirements.

Under this new policy, the rate at which the Power Purchasing Agreement was originally signed will be applied when transitioning between these schemes. This ensures that customers can switch between programs without financial penalties, creating an encouraging environment for solar energy adoption in Sri Lanka.

Minister Wijesekera also revealed plans for further expansion in the solar energy sector. The CEB and LECO will introduce rooftop financing schemes for new rooftop developments starting from December. This initiative is expected to stimulate the growth of solar installations across the nation, making it easier for homeowners and businesses to invest in renewable energy solutions.

The rooftop financing schemes will enable more Sri Lankans to participate in the nation's clean energy future. These developments are part of the government's ongoing efforts to promote sustainability, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and provide affordable, clean energy options to the public.
