Parliament Officials Handed Charge Sheets for Alleged Sexual Harassment Against Female Staffers, Face Dismissal

Chaminda Kularatne, the Acting Secretary General of the Parliament, handed over charge sheets to two officials from the Housekeeping Department who were suspended amid allegations of sexually harassing female staff members. The incident came to light last Friday, October 27, and follows a series of preliminary investigations.

The Acting Secretary General has set a 14-day deadline for the accused officials to submit their responses to the charge sheets. If no explanations are provided within this timeframe, they may face dismissal from their positions.

The charge sheets have been issued based on the information uncovered during the preliminary investigations conducted in relation to the alleged sexual harassment incident. The initial findings were reported to the General Secretary of the Parliament, Advocate Kushani Rohanadeera, by the investigating team.

Following this report, Hansana Abeyratne, the Assistant Secretary General, was instructed to initiate formal investigations into the incident. The results of this comprehensive inquiry are expected to be available in the near future.
